On Grabbing Opportunities

Hello lovelies, I hope this Friday finds you well!

"I've been lucky. Opportunities don't often come along. So, when they do, you have to grab them."

Let's talk racing for a moment. Nicole and I had planned to run Bay to Breakers in San Francisco this year, but we waited too long to sign up and the registration is now closed, having hit their 50,000 racer mark. {Sorry Megan!} It would have been cool to run B2B because it's the 100th annual race, as well as a piece of Bay Area history and tradition. I would have also had the chance to meet Megan from Watch MeGo Run while she was out in the Bay for her "race-cation". I was not looking forward to the massive crowds, the drunk spectators/racers, and the inevitable nudity/crazy costumes that B2B is known for, and the over $80 in fees that stacked up too quickly for my liking. I can't say I am too disappointed that I wasn't able to sign up.

So instead of wallowing in not being able to run B2B, I signed up for Wharf to Wharf in Santa Cruz on Sunday July 24! This is a 6 mile race that allows up to 15,000 people to participate, so it will be a big race, but it's not going to be gigantic like B2B. It's going to be in one of my favorite places in California, the coastline from Santa Cruz to Capitola! I was pleased with the $35 entry fee, which is a fraction of the cost of B2B, and I already know several friends who are going to be running also. Another awesome incentive to run W2W, the 40 live bands, the beautiful scenery, the Pacific Ocean to your right, and ME!

Now here is where you get to be involved ;)

Ever considered taking a race-cation like Megan? If you have been wanting to get out to California, meet me, or participate in a really fun race along the Pacific coast, this is YOUR event! I would gladly help you coordinate your stay, your registration, your sight-seeing and your entertainment while you are out in my piece of the world.

Just think how fun it would be to check out the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

Eat at Burger, my favorite restaurant in SC

Try your hand at boogie boarding, or check out a surfing lesson at Cowell's Beach next to the Santa Cruz municipal Wharf {where you can feed the sea lions AND find amazing clam chowder!}
Enjoy Marianne's ice cream, which is some of the best stuff ever!
Visit the lighthouse and take a stroll along West Cliff

Take a trip to Natural Bridges State park for a picnic

Maybe drive down the coast to visit Monterey or Carmel-by-the-Sea and see the Monterey Bay Aquarium, eat at Bubba Gump, or drive the scenic 17-mile drive that takes you along Pebble Beach {renowned the world over by golfers}
Now all you have to do is register for Wharf to Wharf, and start planning your vacation to the California coast! I really hope this is incentive enough for you to come on out to California and hang with me for a weekend! Who knows, this could be your way of grabbing opportunities when they present themselves, just like Audrey said!

  1. ahhhh I love california! I've never been there in the summer but I'm sure you'll have such a blast! (especially with all the activities you have planned!)

  2. Man... I just realized how awesome the Bay Area is all over again. Leave it to you, Captain Positivity-pants. =D
    I miss West Cliff. I killed my knee doing God-knows-what, so I haven't been able to run there since February. First world problems. Le sigh.

  3. So beautiful! My husband and I definitely want to get out there for a chunk of time!

You just made my day!
