Memorial weekend recap

Hi gals! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, or even better--a 3 day weekend! A quick but heart felt thank you ever so much to all of our service men and women, past and present, who defend and keep our country safe! Happy Memorial day to all.

Things I learned this weekend:
~When a wedding location floods the night before a wedding, you better believe the bride will be an even bigger ball of anxiety and stress, making me work overtime to keep her in my chair and calm, reaffirming that this day is the first day of their marriage together, and no matter what happens, to relish the day. Easier said than done, let me tell you, but I did it, and even had her smiling!
~How to Marry a Millionaire is an awesome movie! Lauren Bacall, Betty Grable and Marilyn Monroe are actually quite funny, as well as beautiful.
~Hanging with a radio DJ friend reaps many rewards! Such as free admission to a theme park, getting backstage access at a festival, and seeing two really great bands perform live from the side of the stage. Thanks Ashton!
Family Force 5
Crowd shot and Family Force 5 rocking in the pouring rain
John and Corrie Cooper of Skillet and backstage madness
~Family Force 5 is a rad band that mixes hard rock, delicious hip hop, and all sorts of funk into a neat package of positive music.  Think a cleaned up version of 3Oh!3.

~I got to do some outlet shopping on my day off, scoring a new Pearl Izumi pink and grey tri top, a running hat, and a new sports bra. I feel like Barbie in my top, it's going to be awesome to race in!
~Having Billy along on his bike while I run is both fun and motivating! I ended up running 6.56 miles in 61 minutes, my longest run to date, and a pretty good pace too! Billy helped keep me on pace by telling me my speed, and also rubbing in when I had slowed down. He really tapped into my competitive side, it was great!
~While down at the outlets, I took Billy to Sonic for his first time. I had a salad and split popcorn chicken, cheesy tots, and a Butterfinger blast with him. He definitely felt the food was overrated, but the specialty drinks are pretty cool.

On makeup

"Make-up can only make you look pretty on the outside but it doesn't help if your ugly on the inside. Unless you eat the make-up."
— Audrey Hepburn

Quick question:
What is the difference between a jegging and a stretchy skinny jean? I am so lost when it comes to fashion!

5.26.2011

It's been awhile.

Hi gals, I missed you! I'm sorry I haven't written much this week, it's been hectic. I guess my blog is the first thing to go when I cram in as many workouts as possible, which translates to every morning, and still try to maintain a social life by meeting up with friends every afternoon before I head off to work. By the time I'm off work in the evening, I have errands to run, dinner to cook {hah, barely cooked this week!} and then I become one with the couch and just veg out instead of doing anything productive before a late bedtime.

Some highlights of this past weekend and this week include:

~Meeting a new photographer and styling a genuine 5'11" Russian model's hair for a photo shoot
All photos copyright Made of Beautiful photography

~Boogie on the Bayou festival in downtown Campbell where my salon is located {good: tons of people to watch and things to check out, bad: no parking for my clients}
~No work on Monday or Thursday afternoon
{you would think I would have had more time to blog, but no!}

~Riding my triathlon bike route twice, and bringing down my time on both. I took off 10 minutes on my first ride this week. The second ride was after a swim and with my new clip-less pedals, but I caught so many red lights it evened me out and made me only 1 minute faster than the previous ride.

~First open water swim! It was far more challenging than a swimming pool, and the wetsuit was cumbersome, which made things difficult, but I did it!
~Attending my first bike maintenance class and learning how to change a flat tire. Also, learning that my bike can fit in the backseat of my 2 door Honda Civic, say whaaaat?! One of the few times me being a shorty has really paid off. I will be getting a bike rack eventually, but this worked in a pinch. But boo for getting chain grease on my beige seat...anyone know how to get that out?
~Making this recipe "healthier" with whole wheat flour and Splenda. It looked great, and I ate more than I should have, which is the way I am with any baked good, but once I pulled myself away from the tempting treat, I realized I didn't like it all that much. I will attempt it again, but stick to the recipe to see if it's better.
~Erasure's "Always" is very easily attached to your brain. Do not play the awesome and easily addicting game Robot Unicorn Attack, or else you will be singing this little diddy for a week. Trust me ;) But if you want to hear the song and see a cheesy video, here you go!

Wordless Wednesday

Hi lovelies! I'm still here, just taking an unexpected few days off blogging to accomplish some living ;) I'll be back soon, and of course I will have tons to say! In the meantime, enjoy some pretty photos to get you through your Wednesday!

Fill in the blank Friday on Saturday

Um, I'm a little late to this party, but that's how I roll, apparently! Sorry for a Friday post on Saturday, but it's what you get when I decide to do a weekend post, ooooooohh!!

Fill in the blank Friday
Linking up with Michelle, who linked up with The Little Things We Do

1.   People always tell me I look like Hilary Duff. Always. Occasionally I get Rachel McAdams.

2.  Friends don’t let friends say hateful things about themselves. Gotta love the one you're with, and that's YOU, all the time!
3.  A sunny day is perfect for triathlon training! Swim, bike, run!
4.  My favorite accessory is my wedding band and engagement ring, since that's the one staple accessory I always wear. I also like big "diamond" stud earrings, and my Forever 21 leopard print patent ballet flats. Best shoes ever!
5.  If I could afford it I would buy a great home in a nice area, rather than be relegated to looking in the crappier parts of town, or not being able to afford anything at all, such as the current state of house hunting.
6.  The cure for boredom is sleep! Also reading books, blogs, Facebook, walking the dog, or working out.
7. I am currently “in like” with my beautiful new bike, Cupcake.

I feel...

Via
Today, I woke up, and I felt....thin. Surprised me, that's for sure, because I wasn't expecting that feeling. The scale confirmed my suspicions and gave me a number that I just couldn't believe. Nothing absurd mind you, just less than the last time I stepped on a few days ago.

So I stepped on it 5 different time to make sure it had made up it's mind about my weight.

While I was getting ready, Billy said "you look skinny", and I shared that I had been sucking in my tummy and staring at my ribs in side view for about 5 minutes before he came in. He laughed at me.

It put a pep in my step and got me moving for my workout. Which was AWESOME by the way! I rode the bike route for my triathlon on cupcake, my fabulous new bike, and it made all the difference. I shaved off about 15 minutes from the last time I rode the route on a mountain bike, and felt great, even when I hit the monster hill at mile 7. Thank goodness my iPod had the good sense to slow down my shuffle list and gave me some great slower tempo songs like:
Wildfire by the Limousines
Miserabile Visu by Anberlin
Phenomena by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
then Empire State of Mind by Jay Z

It was. The. BEST.

When I got home, I fixed Billy breakfast, then of course I documented my feeling thin day with a bathroom mirror photo.

Because I can't forget the days when I actually feel like all the crazy hard workouts and sticking to my diet while "just saying no" to sugar and white flour is all worth it. Can I get an AMEN?!

And now I am posting it for all of you, because I am not perfect, I am not where I would like to be, and I don't always like myself, but today I felt good, and I am holding on to that feeling. I apologize for the blurry quality, the sweaty state, and my not so cute sports bra and cycling shorts. I still love me though.

Hopefully you love you today, too! Find something about yourself that can make you happy today.

Wee bit Wednesday vol 2

I am linking up again with Leigh Ashley over at MyLeighAshley for Wee Bit Wednesday! Won't you join me?
{one} do you watch the history channel? if so, what’s your favorite program?
Nope. I don't even have cable, so if there is a show I want to watch, I have to find it on the Internet. I can barely keep up with the shows I know about, let along a whole 'nother channel with a slew of new shows

{two} what is your favorite thing to do on a rainy day?
Snuggle up on the couch, with either my laptop out or a book to read. I hate driving in the rain, and I am generally less motivated on rainy days so the less to do the better!

{three} what does your dream house look like?
Depends on where it is! I love big old school charmer craftsman houses, as well as those nouveau Italian style homes that are cropping up everywhere. Honestly, my dream house is a home that belongs to me, with at least 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a 2 car garage, and a backyard space. Can you tell I am house hunting and am not too picky at this point?

{four} what state were you born in?
California, born and raised!

{five} do you have a change jar? if so, what do you use it for when it gets full?
Yes! I collect all of Billy's loose change that I find around the house {couch cushions, floor, dresser etc.} and put it in an old pasta sauce jar. Once it is full, I cash it in at a coin star machine and we use it generally for spending money for the few and far between trips we take.

{six} what’s the first website you look at when you get on the computer?
Gmail, then usually Facebook and Blogger, or multiple windows of all 3 sites +more at the same time.

{seven} what is your favorite breakfast?
Breakfast isn't really my favorite meal because I don't like breakfast meats or eggs, so I usually go for some sort of French toast, preferably stuffed, with lots of fresh fruit, or Belgian waffles with strawberries. Oh, and crepes! Hmm, oatmeal is yummy too....The sweeter the better, I like dessert for breakfast ;)

{eight} what’s the most memorable trip you’ve ever taken?
My first Vegas vacation! I planned it for over 6 months, tantalizing myself with Vegas photos and attractions on a daily basis, so I was extremely ready to go and have fun once the trip rolled around. It is marked by good friends,  yummy food, lots of fun, and new experiences. I loved it!

{nine} do you prefer your coffee black or with cream/milk/sugar?
No coffee, thank you. I don't drink coffee, ever. Rarely I will have tea with splenda, but usually I stick to water all day, every day.

{ten} have you ever done a professional photo shoot?
I work them all the time! I have played around in front of the camera once, and it was for fun with a photographer I have worked on countless shoots with, and I don't even have those photos, nor do I want them! I do have plans, as in, on my 101 in 1001 list, to do a photoshoot of myself, but I don't feel confident enough as I am right now, or have any photog friends with free time on their hands who want to do it anytime soon. Maybe later?

Wish I was a baller

You all remember that song, right? I can't be the only one who remembers Skee-Lo and everything we wish we were....

Today I wish I were wittier. Or a better writer so you would think I was witty, and then tell all your other blog friends to stop by because I made you smile with some random post of mine.

Today I wish I was a better swimmer. A swimmer so awesome the 40 laps (ie: 1,000 yards) I swam this morning would have been such a piece of cake I could have kept swimming. Like all the way to Alcatraz. Or something. Like Dara Torres.

Today I wish I had all day to stay cuddled up on the couch, enjoying watching Parenthood, a new to me show, and staying out of the drizzly grey weather.
Via
Maybe if I was in Paris the gloomy weather would be more romantic
Today I wish I looked like one of the Oxygen magazine girls. Maybe not that ripped, but super lean and fit. Yeah. I've got to lose about 20lbs and spend a lot of time lifting weights if I want to get there!

What do you wish you were today?
I know it's not healthy to fixate on what we are not, but it helps if we have something to strive  for, right?

Mundane Monday

Wooo boy am I glad it's Monday!! This was a wonderful, but very busy weekend for me, I certainly hope the same for you lovely ladies!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I mentioned on Friday, Megan from Watch MeGo Run was in San Francisco this weekend. I got to go up to Sf to visit her a second time on Sunday. I brought the elusive Billy along with me this time, and we had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory in Union Square. We also realized that there is a Burger Bar also in Union Square, which just happens to be Billy's favorite Las Vegas restaurant. I now have ample leverage to get him back into SF in the future. Megan and Ryan were just as sweet and charming on second meeting as they had been the first time around. I was just too happy to have been able to meet up with one of my awesome blog friends. I haven't uploaded all the epic pictures from our second meet up, so that will be another post later.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I learned this weekend:
~Even "experienced" bakers have batch failures occasionally
~Sometimes you just have to make a second bath of cupcakes when the first isn't quite right
~But give those failed cupcakes a day to dry out a bit and they are delicious!
~Cupcakes make a suitable lunch when you are already deep into a weekend of deliciously bad eating
~non-Californians tend to be nicer than a lot of Californians
~Prom is still as big of a deal as ever to high school girls
~3 days of bad eating had me itching for a run this morning
~I have 4 weeks until my 1st triathlon {yikes!!! how'd it sneak up on me?!}
~The next 3 weeks are going to be very selfish ones, as I will be focusing on last minute training to make sure I am ready for the triathlon
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remember it's a party over at Meg's, link up for Mingle Monday!

1st blogger meet up Friday!

It's still Friday in my timezone, Pacific Standard Time, so I figured I can say:

Happy Friday!!

In lieu of an Audrey quote, here is a little look at my very cool day!

And oooh boy, it has been a wonderful Friday! I had my very first blogger meet up today with the lovely Megan of Watch MeGo Run! Take a minute after you read this post to visit her blog, you will be ever the more inspired to run your tushy off!

She is in San Francisco for the 100th annual Bay to Breakers race on Sunday, so I went up to the city to meet her and Ryan, her boyfriend, for lunch and a tour around Pier 39. We had lunch at Chowder's, and of course it was clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. Then we got dessert crepes, yum! I know Megan loves taking pictures, and so do I, so here are a few from today!
1st photo together!
Megan and Ryan in front of Alcatraz, I labeled it for you
Let us show you Alcatraz!
Megan and Ryan with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background

Happily fed after yummy chowder and crepes
Meg and I in our Wayfarer glasses just before parting
It was INCREDIBLY windy today.
Hope you enjoyed my little photo recap of my great first blogger meet up! Megan and I may have a second rendezvous on Sunday before she leaves San Francisco, but it is all dependent on the weather....really! I have a photo shoot scheduled for Sunday afternoon, and if it rains we are scrapping it, so I would be available to go to SF and see my new BBFF!!!
{for anyone who has forgotten, BBFF is Blogger Best Friend Forever}

Doesn't this convince you that you need to be my next blogger meet up?
San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Jose??

 Have a great weekend darlings!
